Left to fend for itself against the cruel south westerlies, the former Coastguard Watchtower is in urgent need of a little TLC. There’s very little of Beach heritage left, and most of it’s contained within the site of the Old Fort. The Watchtower sits atop the Fort and has the most wonderful panoramic view. Now a Shoreham group is racing against time to stop its demolition.
They’re lobbying the Port Authority and English Heritage - thank goodness it’s listed, so we’ve got at least a presumption of innocence - to allow this unique local asset to be converted into an Art Gallery with an international reach.
But beware, Cllr McKinney seems to have other plans. Let’s pray she has as little success persuading the Port Authority as she has had in getting something done about the appalling roads.
