So, David Laws lied to save embarrassment to his loved ones! And it didn’t cost the taxpayer a penny! He was right about one thing: reputation is a most valuable asset.
So valuable, it seems to David Laws, that he reckons it’s better to cheat the Nation to hang on to it, rather than put his cards on the table, rather than have the courage - yes, and it does take real courage - to confront the homophobes, to call the sleazy tabloids’ bluff ( and the even sleazier Daily Telegraph). But isn’t that what it’s all about; courage, honesty, foresight, integrity? It tells us all we need to know about this millionaire - a banker, for goodness sake - who was gleefully, indecently trumpeting the cuts he was preparing for those ‘decent, hard-working families’. Matthew Parish bewails the loss of this Liberal turncoat. Nauseating.
