The Department of Culture Media and Sport has offered £15,000,000 to Local Authorities to provide free swimming for the over-sixties and another £50,000,000 for the under-sixteens. 300 of the 354 Local Authorities, of all political colours, have looked at the scheme, assessed the possible costs, and signed up for free swimming for the over-sixties - 296 for this and free swimming for the under sixteens.. But NOT ours. NOT Adur, NOT Worthing…
“Local authorities dive in for £140 million free swimming fund”.
But NOT ours. NOT Adur, NOT Worthing. In fact, they haven’t even troubled themselves to do the sums. Those Authorities that bothered to, and those Authorities that are un-blinkered enough to see that the health, the well-being of their residents is more than a responsibility, it’s a duty, have grasped the initiative in the spirit that was intended.
Oh Adur, Oh Worthing, you scrabble around counting beans, picking holes, scratching around for any excuse to wriggle out of any civic and human responsibility that might have to be paid for. Truly, you know the cost of everything, and the value of nothing.
